St. Mary’s English Medium School, Kodanchery, is nestled in a serene rural setting adjoining the F.C. Convent, Kodanchery. What was once a hilly and bushy terrain transformed into a centre of learning in 1996, when a Kindergarten was established under the visionary leadership of Rev. Sr. Louis Lato, the then Provincial Superior. The Kindergarten brought joy and hope to the neighbourhood with the dedicated support of Rev. Sr. Candida, who became the first Headmistress of the school.
The institution also received valuable guidance, encouragement, and support from Fr. Joseph Mannur, the then Parish Priest of Kodanchery, who initiated several developmental programmes for the parish community and played a vital role in the growth of the school.
The school began its journey in 1996 on the ground floor of the convent building. In 1997, it was shifted to the present campus and was solemnly blessed by Fr. Joseph Mannur on 2nd June 1997. In 2001, the foundation stone for the school complex was laid. A significant milestone in the history of the school was the academic year 2003–04, when classes were conducted in the newly constructed building for the first time.
Another landmark achievement came during the academic year 2012–13, when the school received No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the State Government and recognition from the CBSE Board. On 27th May, the school was granted CBSE affiliation by CBSE, New Delhi (Affiliation No: 931058).
The school gratefully acknowledges the invaluable contributions of Rev. Sr. Louis Lato, Rev. Sr. Jovanis, Rev. Sr. Tresa Jose, the former Managers, who guided the institution to stand strong on the hill of achievement through the years. The dedicated service of Rev. Sr. Candida, Rev. Sr. Mercy, Rev. Sr. Jaya Tom, Rev. Sr. Daria, Mr. George K. P., Rev. Sr. Lilly John—the pillars of the institution—has played a pivotal role in shaping the success story of the school and placing it prominently on the educational map of Kerala.
Even in its formative years, the school achieved academic excellence, not merely due to its infrastructure but primarily because of the commitment and calibre of its teaching faculty, as reflected in the outstanding academic performance of students. The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) has also played a vital role in the school’s development. Mr. V. D. Joseph, Mr. Shaji Vandanakkara, Mr. K. S. Shaju, and Mr. C. K. Joy, former PTA Presidents, rendered commendable service at various stages of the school’s growth.
Over the years, St. Mary’s English Medium School has grown stone by stone and brick by brick into a well-recognized and highly respected secondary school. The campus is equipped with modern facilities including spacious and well-ventilated classrooms, well-equipped Montessori classrooms, computer and science laboratories, a library, auditorium, playground, children’s park, and a garden rich with plants and flowers.
On the academic front, the school consistently records 100% results in the AISSC examinations. In co-curricular activities, students actively participate in Arts and Sports competitions organized by Malabar Sahodaya, winning numerous prizes with ‘A’ grades. Students have also represented the school at the State Kalolsav, securing prizes with ‘A’ grades.
The school organizes SEWA (Social Empowerment Work in Action) programmes to create awareness on health, sanitation, civic responsibility, environmental protection, and care for senior citizens. Environmental initiatives such as cleanliness drives further instill social responsibility among students.
Through all these endeavours, St. Mary’s English Medium School remains committed to upholding its noble motto:
